Gastronomy and heritage
at Caen Castle

Fine flavors, historic surroundings and suspended moments.

The restaurant faces the ramparts and the delightful statue garden. Opened in 1994, Le Mancel pays tribute to Pierre Bernard Mancel, a former bookseller and fine collector from Caen.

On his death in 1872, Pierre Bernard Mancel, a humble donor, bequeathed 45 17th-century Dutch paintings and a number of Flemish and Italian ones, including Rogier van der Weyden’s Virgin and Child and Cosimo Tura’s Saint James, as well as objets d’art and his albums of prints, all of which were placed in the Musée des Beaux-Arts.
